Italy: A press conference launches media coverage for FADO Project

In March 2025, a press conference held by MetaArte Associazione Arte & Cultura APS drew significant media attention. The event marked an important moment for the FADO project, with MetaArte officially welcomed by the Municipality of Padua through its Department for Equal Opportunities, associated partner of the initiative.

“Theatre is a space where stories are inhabited and shared, where we can fully grasp their meaning and learn how to act in our daily lives to transform our experiences,” said Margherita Colonnello, Councilor for Equal Opportunities and the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence. “FADO is a cultural intervention—it represents yet another challenge in the broader fight against gender-based violence. As a public administration, we are proud to support a project that addresses such a critical social issue through the language of art.” She concluded, “This initiative prompts us to reflect on how deeply rooted cultural change must be to dismantle the stereotypes that continue to obstruct gender equality.”

Manuela Frontoni, Artistic Director of MetaArte, explained:
“Through theatre workshops and creative expression, survivors are guided in exploring and sharing their personal stories. This process strengthens their self-esteem and determination to confront the violence they’ve endured.”

Roberta Bassan, representing NET Association, added:
“FADO is open to all individuals who may be at risk of violence, offering inclusive opportunities for expression and community engagement—regardless of gender, origin, age, or social background. I firmly believe in the power of peer support for survivors—these initiatives are crucial for building networks of care that help people regain trust in themselves and in others, ultimately fostering autonomy after trauma.”
