In March 2025, a press conference held by MetaArte Associazione Arte & Cultura APS drew significant media attention. The event marked an important moment for the FADO project, with MetaArte officially welcomed by the Municipality of Padua through its Department for Equal Opportunities, associated partner of the initiative. “Theatre is a space where stories are inhabited and shared, where we can fully grasp their meaning and learn how to act in our daily lives to transform our experiences,” said Margherita Colonnello, Councilor for Equal Opportunities and the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence. “FADO is a cultural intervention—it represents yet another challenge
The project
FADO is a theatre-based initiative against gender-based violence, funded by the Erasmus Plus program of the European Union.
It uses theatre to support victims, raise awareness, and foster social change. Through workshops, performances, and digital tools, it helps individuals regain confidence and become active citizens.
This was our second transnational meeting for the FADO project, an ambitious effort to turn theatre into a tool for healing. We came from different places—Spain, Serbia, France, Cyprus, Italy—but for two days, in this room, we spoke the same language: change.
Gender-based violence is a harsh reality for many, and reaching out for help can feel impossible—especially for those still in danger. By combining the art of storytelling with an accessible online platform, FADO offers a way for victims to find support without putting themselves at further risk.
In a world where gender-based violence continues to shatter lives and silence voices, the FADO project stands as a powerful counterforce—rooted in empathy, storytelling, and community action. FADO, which stands for Finding Assistance, Delivering Outreach, is not just a support system but a transformative movement.
